The EarthQuaker Devices Afterneath V3 is what they call their enhanced otherworldly reverberation machine – and the V3 features ED’s new Flexi Switch…
The Afterneath V3 has an otherworldly reverb algorithm built from an adjustable cluster of short delays. It ranges from scattered individual delays to an immersive wash of atmospheric reverb. For the V3 you have new control over the Drag parameter with 9 unique modes of user-selectable sweep. These new modes of operation push the already unflappable Afterneath into a whole new realm:
- Unquantized: Smooth, unquantized response over the operating range.
- Unquantized with Slew: Smooth, unquantized response over the entire operating range, but with a musical slew that is reminiscent of turning the varispeed knob on a vintage British tape delay. The “Drag” will lag behind the knob or cv changes, but then quickly catch up.
- Unquantized Volt/Octave: Smooth and unquantized, yet scaled to align with the 1v/octave curve to allow melodic modulation of audio in the buffer, or control the frequency of self-oscillation like a voltage-controlled oscillator
- Chromatic Scale: Quantized 1v/octave to the chromatic scale
- Major Scale: Quantized 1v/octave to the major scale
- Minor Scale: Quantized 1v/octave to the minor scale
- Pentatonic Scale: Quantized 1v/octave to the pentatonic scale
- Octaves & Fifths: Quantized 1v/octave to omit all but octaves and fifths
- Octaves: Quantized 1v/octave to omit all but octaves
The EarthQuaker Devices Afterneath V3 features a completely analog dry signal path, totally digital delay path, buffered bypass with Flexi Switch Technology and a tails/no tails option on bypass.
All in all a great pedal that invite exploration and improvisation. Then you’ll get some unexpected musical turns. We also find it has a truly superb sensitivity and excellent range in the controls. The varied controls are very intuitive and invite experimentation which will come to you very quickly as you can understand their general feel with just a few twists. It’s not your average reverb that’s for sure.

We are an online store only, so your new pedal has never been demoed on a shop floor or been out on display. We do though test all pedals (and any power supplies where included with pedals) before we send them out to hopefully minimise any hassles of faulty pedals on delivery.
