Fulltone OCD V2 Overdrive

The Fulltone OCD has received many slight tweaks since its birth in 2004, often incorrectly identified as “version 2, Version 3, Version 4.” In reality there has always been only one version…Version 1, with very slight variations in a couple of values after that making them V1.0 through V1.8. All OCDs serial 205811 and higher are the new, less compressed versions some refer to as “v2.01” Now we have the true V2 – The Fulltone OCD V2 Overdrive.

The Fulltone OCD V2 Overdrive is a dynamic sounding pedal featuring an easy to access HP/LP switch that gives you the ability to change the response of the unit from a more ‘British’ feel (with increased mid-range and break-up), to a cleaner signal that is ideal for use as a clean booster into an already overdriven signal chain. We love a simple thing that give flexibility.

Further, the OCD V2 comes with controls for volume and drive, but also tone to carve out the sounds that’s right for you and your rig. This Fulltone OCD V2 is also more than versatile enough to be used either as an out-and-out heavy overdrive sound, but also as a cleaner boost that can complement your existing setup and push your tube amp hard.

The OCD was the first pedal to use Mosfets as clipping devices. Another first was their configuration as “hard clippers connected to v-ref” instead of to ground, as was the norm. These are why the OCD has such touch-sensitivity…why they react so well when the strings are hit hard or soft, and why they sound and feel different to so many other pedals out there.

And, with the V2 Fulltone bring True Bypass or Enhanced Bypass. The Fulltone OCD V2 Overdrive adds a new ‘Class A’ buffer to give a fuller tone and a complex array of overtones—similar to the way that older preamps were used to add harmonic ‘polish’.

This Enhanced Buffer raises the input impedance to 1 mega ohms (previously 330K) and increases the dynamics…resulting in significantly better interaction with both single coil and humbuckers. An internal switch allows you to choose between “Enhanced Bypass TM” & True-Bypass, and with no popping sound in either mode. It’s a great option and unlike many other buffered bypasses.

It’s a classic for a reason, Fulltone just added more and, we believe, made it better.
