Wampler Gearbox Overdrive & Distortion

The Wampler Gearbox features modified versions of two of Brian Wampler’s best loved drive circuits: the stunning Tumnus and the outstanding Pinnacle.

Designed in collaboration with Andy Wood, one of the leading guitarists of this generation, the Gearbox puts two distinctive and versatile overdrives in easy reach, along with a noise gate right at your feet.

The Tumnus side of the Wampler Gearbox pedal needs little introduction and sits in channel 1. This alone is a perfect addition to almost any pedalboard, let alone playing style. It’s outstanding versatility allows you to easily stack it with another pedal to help push or shape the gain, or use it stand alone as a great overdrive, or even as a slightly dirty boost to push the front end of you favourite amp over the edge. Channel 1 features level, gain, and tone controls.

The Pinnacle side (which you’ll find on channel 2) is one of Wampler’s most popular distortion pedals. Here you can conjure up that legendary ‘Brown’ sound to a most convincing level (EVH’s guitar tech played the Pinnacle and said, “many promise that ‘brown’ sounds, this pedal nails it better than anything I’ve ever heard or played”). But don’t forget the Pinnacle is no one-trick-pedal, it also gives you mild overdrive through to extreme gain tones. Channel 2 features a 3 band EQ, Level, Gain, and Gate.

But in the Gearbox, when you stack both channels you’re approaching total tonal bliss. Warm, yet brutal grunt; delicate yet controllable harmonic overtones; and beautifully defined distortion.

And it doesn’t stop there. You can switch the order of the channels too for even more possibilities. For ultimate control, connect both sets of inputs and outputs to an external switcher to mix or match in parallel or series. Andy named this pedal the Gearbox as it was designed to be the driving force behind your sound.
