Versatility = RAT 2. Used as a primary distortion, the ProCo Rat 2 excels at arena rock rhythm tones and also soaring leads. Let the RAT2 be your dirty channel or use the RAT2 as a boost for solos and get the extra kick you need. This is one of those few overdrive and distortion pedals that can be used to give you your distorted or overdriven sound (an amp in a box sound type of pedal) from a clean channel, but also works great to push the front of your amp’s dirty channel and stack drives to thicken your sound or lift your leads.
You will have heard this pedal’s sound on thousands of recordings. It’s such a popular distortion/overdrive (and can even get into fuzz territory). And that’s all probably due to its secret weapon, the RAT 2 features the legendary RAT filter control. Turn it clockwise to roll off brittle high-end frequencies or anti-clockwise to allow the natural brightness of your instrument to shine through. Distortion dials in the perfect amount of gain – from mild overdrive to full out fuzzy aggression. The Volume then lets you dial it all in perfectly against your bypassed clean tone. I’ve used one for years and love them, it’s never left my board until I started doing more blues, but then found it’s way back after thinking about a more modern blues sound and just thinking up a classic lower gain tone.
The ProCo Rat 2 takes a battery if required, but runs off a standard barrel type DC connector also if you have a power supply.
